Concerto Zanni was founded by young musicians who played, already at the beginning of their careers, in such renowned orchestras of the old music scene as Freiburger Barockorchester, Les Musiciens du Louvre, Il Seminario Musicale, Concentus Musicus Wien, Academia Montis Regalis, Haydn Sinfonietta Wien and Le Concert Spirituel under the direction of artistic figures such as Marc Minkowski, René Jacobs, Hervé Niquet, Manfred Huss, Alessandro di Marchi, Enrico Onofri oder Amandine Beyer.
In addition, they already perform successfully in their own groups like RinascitaConsort, KlangZeitRaum and Quatuor Mathis. The quality of this joung and very promising ensemble manifests itself in the spirit with which the musicians from four different nationalities let the music speak for itself. Their mutual inspiration beyond national borders and the joy with which the members of the ensemble Concerto Zanni play turn their music into an unforgettable experience.
The ensemble consists of two violins and a basso continuo group of a violoncello and a keyboard instrument and increases on a project-by-project basis. Each of the musicians has enjoyed an excellent education in conservatories in London, Brussels, Paris, Vienna, Bratislava, Oslo and Leipzig and their skills are also further developed in master classes.
The concept behind the word Zanni in the ensemble's name stands for the short form of the Italian Giovanni and at the same time for the archetypal figures from the Commedia dell'arte – the “Zanni”. In their multi-faceted characters such as the naive and melancholic Pierrot or the cunning Harlequin, these characters perfectly match the different affects in baroque music.
